Node Operators

Learn everything you need to know about node operators

Introduction

The Internet Computer’s canister smart contracts are hosted by independent node machines. These node machines are combined to form so-called subnets.

Subnets are clusters of node machines. Canisters run on top of subnets.

The node machines of a subnet reach agreements on the state of the network and collaborate to symmetrically replicate the computations and data of software canisters.

What are Node Operators?

Node operators operate and maintain specialized node machines that are hosted in independent data centers across the world.

Revenue Stream of Node Operators

As a reward for providing their services to the IC network, node operators earn node rewards from the Network Nervous System (NNS). In order to reward nodes, the NNS issues new ICP tokens.
