The 20-Year Roadmap of the Internet Computer

With the genesis launch in May 2021, the Dfinity Foundation announced a 20-year roadmap for the Internet Computer. The roadmap details how Dfinity plans to allocate R&D resources in the Internet Computer ecosystem.

In 5 years time

Those interested in tech have heard about the Internet Computer. Developers and entrepreneurs will be choosing the IC as the go-to resource rather than traditional, centralized IT providers. Schools and universities will start to teach Motoko, the IC’s native programming language.

In 10 years time

Is the goal to put the Internet Computer on a trajectory where it will be recognized as the primary compute platform for the open internet that is used for building services and systems.

In 20 years time

The open internet hosted by the Internet Computer will have overtaken the traditional proprietary ecosystem built by present day’s Big Tech companies. Society’s crucial information infrastructure, services, and systems will be running on the IC blockchain network.

Motoko Smart Contract Language

Motoko is the native programming language of smart contracts running on the Internet Computer.

Chain Key Cryptography

With the help of Chain Key cryptography, the Internet Computer is able to scale to millions of independent nodes.

Network Nervous System (NNS)

The Network Nervous System governs the Internet Computer and was successfully deployed.

Internet Identity Auth System

Internet Identity provides seamless access to the Internet Computer and has been successfully deployed.
